When you first bring your rabbit home try to keep things as quiet as possible. Whether they are organic or not they should be washed thoroughly. Any new vegetables you would like to introduce into their diet do so slowly. One new vegetable a day and watch how they respond. Your pets should have one to two cups of vegetables for every five pounds of their body weight each day.

Do not feed cauliflower as it causes gas and rabbits are unable to expel it. Avoid potatoes, corn and iceberg lettuce as well. Carrots should not be a part of their normal diet. They would be considered a treat. Usually a treat would be a piece of fruit and should not be given more than a couple times a day and they should be small. Breeds like the Labrador Retriever, Weimaraner and Australian Shepherd are a natural at fetching balls and dog toys. In addition to fetching balls many herding and hunting breeds are also accomplished Frisbee dogs, also known as Disc Dogs.

Disc dogs require the skills necessary to track a disc and judge when and where to catch it in mid air. This requires agility and attentiveness. In order for a dog to stay focused, the dog owner shouldn’t throw the Frisbee haphazardly.

World Champion disc dogs are amazing to watch. The dog handlers and dogs have a natural rhythm of throwing a disc and graceful jumps and catches. Frisbee dogs can be seen during half time shows or at your local dog park or in your own backyard.

Steps to training a dog to play fetch can be a dog owner/dog bonding experience. Begin by throwing a ball or favorite dog toy and running with your dog to retrieve it. Sometimes dogs need a little extra coaxing. Putting a dog treat inside the ball adds a little incentive to fetch the ball. When your dog picks up the ball take the dog treat out of the slit and reward your dog with the treat, words of praise and a belly rub.

Disc training is different than fetch training. Using the disc as a water/food bowl will acquaint your dog with the disc. Gently toss the disc in front of your dog and encourage your dog to catch the disc in mid air. Reward your dog only when the disc is caught. Increase the throwing distance as your dog masters the disc techniques.

Playing fetch and/or Frisbee with your dog is great exercise for both the dog owner and the dog. Teaching your dog new tricks requires a lot repetition. The end result will be a closer bond with your best friend!
