Ferrets make great pets and you should investigate ferrets if you are looking to get a pet but do not want a fish, cat or dog. Ferrets cannot live on cat or dog food as they are carnivores and need a high protein, high energy diet with only small amounts of fiber. There are foods specifically made for ferrets. In order to make sure your ferret does not become a picky eater it is important to change flavors and brands otherwise they may refuse to eat putting you in a tight spot if a brand is discontinued.
Ferrets are not very expensive to have as a pet. One of the largest costs is in the initial purchase as you will need to obtain the ferret from a breeder. Of course we recommend you check out your local ferret rescue before picking up your new friend. They may have just the one love need a special home.
Pet ferrets also should be neutered or spayed and the cost of this will depend on where you have it done. Many states and cities will require a license in order to keep a ferret as a pet and some states, such as California, ferrets are forbidden as pets.
