Non-Sporting Group
A catch-all group of sturdy, people-friendly companions.
Non-Sporting is the group the kennel clubs use for breeds that do not fit neatly anywhere else, so there is no single temperament that ties it together. What these two share is that they make easy, cheerful companions for people who want a sturdy small dog without a working-breed agenda.
The Bichon and the Boston are both happy in apartments, good with kids when raised right, and more interested in being part of the family than in patrolling a fence line. They are a sensible starting point if you want a friendly dog and not a project.
