Working Group

Powerful, independent dogs bred to guard and haul.

Working breeds were developed to guard property, pull loads, and make decisions on their own. They are powerful, smart, and often reserved with strangers, which is the point. A dog bred to protect is not supposed to greet every visitor like a long-lost friend.

That independence is what makes them so loyal to their own people and so much work for a first-time owner. They need early socialization, consistent handling, and an owner who leads without picking fights. The Akita is the example here: devoted, dignified, and absolutely not a dog you bring home on a whim.
